The current Walker County Jail in Alabama was opened in 1998.  It has the capacity to hold 250 inmates and was built in a manner that allows for the addition of more units in the future if they are needed.  The jail provides medical services to inmates, and it was a nursing staff and doctor on site. Visitation Rules

  • The jail may refuse anyone the right to visit.
  • Cell phones and other devices must be powered off or placed on vibrate mode while in the lobby of the facility. 
  • Talking on cell phones must occur outside the building.  
  • No video recorders, cameras, or cellular phones with cameras are permitted in the jail.  
  • Small children are not permitted at the jail for visitation.  
  • Visitors must dress modestly.
  • Short shorts, tank tops, low-cut tops, and mini-skirts are prohibited.  

Visitation Hours

Hours for visitation at the jail are as follows:

A, B, C, and D dorm visitation is on Tuesday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (Visitors must be logged in by at least 2:45 p.m.)

Visitation for E, F, G, M, and H dorms is on Wednesday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (Visitors must be logged in by at least 2:45 p.m.)

T, X, and W dorm visitation is on Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (Visitors must be logged in by at least 2:45 p.m.)

Visitation for Medical, MP, and booking dorms is on Saturday between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.   (Visitors must be logged in by at least 2:45 p.m.)

Inmates can receive mail while incarcerated at the facility. Inmate Mail Rules

  • With the exception of legal mail, all incoming mail must be on a plain white post card.
  • All inmate mail is required to have a complete return address. 
  • Mailing labels and any other sticky items may not be affixed to postcards.
  • All mail is inspected before being delivered to an inmate.
  • Inmates may not send mail to one another.
  • Mail that arrives via a 3rd party is prohibited. 
  • Cash may not be sent to inmates in the mail. 
  • The following items are not allowed on or in postcards:  computer printouts, stickers, cards, scents, chemicals, perfume, and cologne. 

Inmate Store

Inmates may purchase items at the jail store. A cash machine is located in the lobby of the jail where friends and family can deposit money for inmates with cash or a credit/debit card. After being deposited, the funds are placed in the inmate’s account.
