The Tuscaloosa County Jail in Alabama moved into its current location in 1995. The jail houses minimum- and maximum-security for misdemeanor and felony arrests issued by the courts. The facility’s medical, dental, technology, living quarters, and kitchen are among the most modern in Alabama. The jail’s cost of construction was $8.2 million and included renovations to the Metro facility, which is now a part of the current jail. Visitation / Tuscaloosa County Jail Inmate Search

The jail offers onsite video and at-home video seven day a week between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. To schedule a visit, please call 205-349‐4511 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. the day before you’d like to visit an inmate. Onsite vs. At-Home Visitation / Tuscaloosa County Jail Inmate Search

Securus is the jail’s inmate video communication provider, which provides onsite and at-home visitation options. Onsite video visitation is similar to standard visitation through a glass panel except that the visitor travels to the jail and visits using a touchscreen terminal in the jail’s visitation center. At-home video visitation, on the other hand, allows visitors to visit from home or anywhere else with an Apple smartphone, Android, or computer that has a webcam and access to the internet. Visitation Rules and Dress Code

The following rules apply to inmate visitation:

  • Inmates are allowed one visit per week.
  • Only two people may visit with an inmate at a time.
  • Visitors must be listed on the inmate’s visitation list.
  • Visitors must be at least sixteen years old. Visitors under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult who possesses a valid identification card.
  • Visitors must check in at the front desk at least fifteen minutes before the scheduled visit.
  • Cell phones, bags, and purses are prohibited in the building during visitation.
  • Anyone who is caught visiting with an unauthorized will lose his or her visitation privileges.
  • Anyone who has been incarcerated at the jail for a misdemeanor will be denied visitation for six months from the date of release.
  • Anyone who has been incarcerated at the jail for a felony will be denied visitation for one year from the date of release.
  • Short skirts, shorts, and skirts with slits are not allowed during visitation.
  • Sleeveless shirts are prohibited.
  • Low-cut tops and short shirts are prohibited.
  • Low-cut jeans are not allowed.
  • Cleavage and the mid-section must be covered at all times.

Inmates have access to the U.S. Postal Service during incarcerations, and they are permitted to correspond with outside persons and organizations. However, such correspondence is subject to limitations necessary for order and security purposes.
