Visitation / Shelby County Inmate Listing

Inmates at the facility are permitted one visit each week. However, depending on the circumstances, an inmate may have his or her visitation privileges limited or revoked. Visitation at the jail is provided at no cost to the visitor or inmate. Also, if an inmate is on visitation restriction, or an inmate has exceeded his or her visitation allowance for the week, then the visitation scheduling system will not permit visitors to schedule a visit with that inmate until the restriction is lifted or the requisite time has passed.

Visitation Rules

Visitors must be approved before visitation is permitted and must present a valid government ID prior to the start of visitation. Visitors must schedule visitation at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled visitation time. As noted above, the visitation scheduling system only permits each inmate to have one visit per week. The following rules apply to visitation at the facility:

  • Foul, offense, and loud language is prohibited.
  • No nudity is permitted during visitation.
  • Children may attend visitation if they don’t disturb other visits.
  • Visitors are only allowed to visit with two separate inmates each week
  • Visits that are scheduled on the kiosk in the lobby may not begin any sooner than 15 minutes after scheduling is done.
  • A visit can be scheduled up to two weeks out.
  • “Inmate swapping” during visits is prohibited.
  • Cell phones and tablets are prohibited during visitation.
  • Visitors are required to be respectful of other visitors.
  • Visitors subject to an abuse protection order may not visit the inmate who is the subject of the order.
  • Unless approved by a supervisor, visitors under the age of 18 are only permitted to visit when accompanied by an adult.
  • An officer may terminate visitation at his or her discretion.
  • Visitation while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is prohibited.
  • Adult visitors are required to have and present current valid identification during visitation.
  • With the exception of privileged attorney visit, all visits are subject to monitoring and recording.

Inmates at the jail are permitted to receive mail from the outside. However, before sending mail to an inmate, it is advisable to first confirm the inmate’s presence at the facility by searching the Shelby County inmate listing. To add money to an inmate’s account, click here or use the kiosk in sheriff’s office lobby. In addition, all inmate mail must be properly addressed and include the sender’s return address and name.
