The Montgomery County Jail, otherwise known as the Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility, is able to hold up to 1,200 inmates daily. This facility’s construction first began in October 2006 and is an expansion of the old jail, which now consists of four floors. The first floor of the jail is administration, staff gym, records and a conference room. The second floor is a medical unit, female housing unit that includes 27 individual cells, and a pharmacy. The third and fourth floors of the jail consist of housing for minimum- and medium-security male inmates, a recreation area, and a multipurpose room. Each area is fully staffed by correctional officers and is designed for full visibility which increases safety and security for all staff and inmates. Visitation Hours / Montgomery County Jail Roster

To schedule a visit at the facility, click here. However, before doing so, it is recommended that you first confirm the inmate’s presence by searching the Montgomery County Jail roster. To search the Montgomery County Jail roster, click here.

Visits must be scheduled at least one day but no more than one week in advance. Visitors must be pre-approved, and no more than four visitors are allowed per inmate.

On-Site Video Visitation

On-site video visitation is available via video terminals located in the jail’s visitation center, and it occurs on Saturdays and Sundays at the following times from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Off-Site Video Visitation

Off-site visitation is available to anyone who has access to a computer, tablet or cell phone. Click here for off-site visitation download instructions. Please note that off-site visitation is fee based. Off-site visitation occurs seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Visitation Rules

All visitors must be appropriately dressed and adhere to the jail’s dress code or else they will not be allowed entrance, this includes:

  • No sheer or translucent clothing
  • No halter tops
  • No short skirts or shorts
  • No tights or low-cut tops

All visitors must behave appropriately and refrain from using vulgar language. Officials at the jail have the right to suspend a visitation and have the visitor removed from the property for breaking any of the rules. All visitors aged 16 and older are allowed one 30-minute visit each week and must show proof of identification. All visitors aged 12 years old and under must be accompanied by their guardian. Please note that each video visitation is monitored and recorded.

Mail that is not properly addressed will either be returned to sender or destroyed.

Inmates are allowed two publications every six months after being first approved by administration. Inmates are not permitted to receive magazines or hardcover books. In addition, books that are not in the jail library may only be sent directly from the publisher.

Sheriff’s Office

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is compiled of several divisions, including patrol division, administration, legal services, the county jail, investigation division, training, and the juvenile detention center. The sheriff’s office has multiple responsibilities and manages the day-to-day operations of the county. This includes but is not limited to assisting citizens with tax forms, permits, managing vehicles and county equipment, and managing the emergency response communication center. The office has a subdivision for general criminal investigations, in which trained professionals are actively working and involved in narcotics, homicide, missing persons, and warrants for arrests.
