Jail Visitation / Houston County Inmate Roster

To schedule a visit with an inmate in the jail, please call 334-712-0762. Walk-in visits are not allowed. All visits must be scheduled no later than 3:00 p.m. on the Friday before the weekend visit occurs. However, before arranging a visit, it is highly recommended that you first confirm the inmate’s physical presence at the jail by searching the Houston County inmate roster here.

Jail Visitation Rules

  • Each inmate at the jail in Dothan, Alabama, is permitted one 30-minute visit on the inmate’s designated weekend.
  • Only two people, including children, will be allowed to visit daily.
  • Split visits are not allowed. All visitors must come and leave together.
  • All visitors to the jail must adhere to the dress code, which is posted in the facility.
  • Cell phones and other types of electronic devices are prohibited in the facility. Any person who attempts to bring contraband into the jail will be arrested and prosecuted.
  • All visitors will have a warrant check conducted prior to being allowed to visit the inmate.
  • Any visitor age 16 and older must present a valid government issued photo ID. Visitors younger than the age of 16 will being a social security card or birth certificate.
  • Children must not be left unattended.
  • Failure to comply with visitation rules can result in that visitor being banned from the jail for a minimum of 90 days.

Inmate Mail Rules

The following rules apply to inmate mail:

  • All mail is inspected for contraband, foreign substances or stains prior to the inmate receiving it.
  • All mail is required to be sent on a single sheet of card stock. The card must be folded in half and taped on both edges.
  • No hand delivered mail will be accepted.
  • No photocopies, crayon, or non-ink substances are allowed.
  • Officers at the jail reserve the right to withhold mail if it does not comply with the above rules.

The county was founded in 1903 and was named after George Smith Houston, who was the 24th Governor of Alabama. This area of Alabama was developed for turpentine industries and pine timber, in addition to cotton plantations, which were common during this time period and this area.
