Sheriff’s Office
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office consists of staff members who assist with daily operations, including maintaining records and ensuring activities within the office are promoting efficiency. The Sheriff’s office continues to serve the community, and includes one sheriff, a sergeant, and multiple deputies. The office also participates in Project Life Saver, which provides location assistance to those in the community currently suffering from Alzheimer’s or a dementia related disease, as well as individuals with other cognitive related impairments. For more information on how to participate in this program, an application may be filled out directly with the Sheriff’s office.
The office is involved in various community projects, school programs and presentations, and assists with security at school events. The Sheriff’s office also interacts with local businesses and neighborhood groups to continue to support crime prevention.

Sheriff’s Office Hours and Additional Information
The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 6:00 pm CST. Additional information can be found by either calling the office directly at 205-932-3206, or by downloading the sheriff’s office app here, where daily updates are made regarding sex offenders, weather, and other emergency alerts. Citizens of Fayette County can connect with the sheriff’s office on the app and can also view booked inmates.

The current sheriff of the county is Sheriff Byron Yerby. Sheriff Yerby takes pride in his work in the criminal justice system, and he considers it an honor to serve the community.

The county is located in the northwestern part of Alabama. It was established in 1824 and was named after Marquis Lafayette, who was an assistant to General George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. It has a total square milage of 629.
