The Elmore County Jail houses inmates either waiting to be transferred to Alabama Department of Corrections or are incarcerated for a variety of crimes ranging from misdemeanors, violations, or felonies. The jail operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week by staff members.
Inmates are allowed to receive two soft paperback books monthly directly from a publishing company only. Inmates are also allowed exercise privileges. Inmate privileges can be taken away without notice based upon inmate’s behaviors. Inmates are not allowed accept any property without first prior authorization from a supervisor.
The jail also participates in the Work Release program for approved inmates following certain requirements that must be met, including inmate’s employer must fill out an application with the jail. All applications for the inmate work release program are approved or denied by the Sheriff.

Visitation Hours / Elmore County Inmate Roster
Inmates at the jail are allowed one visitor per weekend on site at the jail via a video visitation machine at no charge. However, before scheduling a visit, it is advisable to first confirm the inmate’s presence by searching the Elmore County inmate roster here.
Visits with inmates must be scheduled at least 48 hours prior to the visitation date. Visitors may also choose to visit the inmate from their cell phone or computer by setting up an account with Securus Technologies. Visitors can set up an account by calling 1-877-578-3658 or by going to their website.
Inmate visitors can also call 1-800-844-6591 to set up an account to the inmate can contact without the call being collect.

Inmate Mail / Elmore County Inmate Roster
Inmates are Elmore County Jail are allowed to receive post cards only. Any letters mail in an envelope will be returned to the sender. However, before sending mail to an inmate, it is advisable to first search the Elmore County inmate roster here. When sending mail, please ensure the post card also has the inmate’s first and last name and a sender’s name and address. Failure to properly address mail may result in mail being returned to sender.

Sheriff’s Office
The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office handles day-to-day operations by providing assistance to the public, including but not limited to administrative paperwork, incident reports, firearm permits, and aids in answering general public questions.
The sheriff’s office is open from Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Sheriff
Sheriff Bill Franklin is the current Elmore County Sheriff. He graduated from Auburn University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He started his criminal justice career at the Montgomery Advanced Police Academy, and he worked at both the state and local level for ten years before becoming sheriff. He was born and raised in the county and comes from a long line of law enforcement in his family.
