About the County / Clay County Inmate Search
Clay County is in the east central part of Alabama, and is named after Henry Clay, a famous American statesman. Clay County was founded on December 7, 1866 and has a total square mileage of 606. The county seat was named after Henry Clay’s estate in Lexington, Kentucky, called “Ashland,” hence the name of the town. Families at this time came mostly migrated from Fayette County in Georgia.
